UPDATED: Bill imposing new sports wagering tax to cut property taxes emerges from committee
Read Article (UPDATED to include new DraftKings email) As lawmakers grapple with how to best cut property taxes, a new idea was floated this week when legislation emerged from a House committee that would tax sports wagering and the sale of lottery tickets. Republican state Rep. Francis Awerkamp of St. Marys amended a bill in the tax committee to impose a 2% tax on sports betting with the proceeds going toward reducing the 20-mill property tax levy for schools.
